What Makes OTB Unique?

INTEGRITY & CONSISTENCY

What you get when you choose Onion Town Builders, is a team of builders who take on the job as a direct reflection of who we are as individuals. Our General Contractor and Owner of OTB, Jarod Wright, has been in the construction business for over 31+ years.

After he started working with his father Jeff Wright, he spent several years doing construction in New Mexico. He built his first home in Angel Fire, New Mexico and still holds a lasting relationship with the contractor who took him under his wing. He then made his way back to Down East Maine to continue that work. This consistency through the years has given us a solid understanding of the process and our subcontractors love us for our attention to detail and preparation for their services.

What the heck does Oniontown mean?

Funny you should ask, as it is kind of a funny story.

Back in the day if you traveled Rt 191/Cutler Road along the Bold Coast of Maine, there were several properties owned by Sid Wright, fondly known to everyone as PaPa Sid. PaPa Sid gifted/sold many of these properties to his sons.

That strip of road is where you could find the “Wright Boys”. If you have been a local long enough, you have definitely known a Wright boy, or two….or three. One of those boys that owned some of Papa Sids property was Jeffery Wright. Jeff was a local carpenter who built many new homes for the locals and some not so local. However, on one of those properties on the Cutler road he built himself a structure. Houses do not usually get nicknames but this one did. This one was named the the “Hippy  High Rise”  The Hippy High Rise is where you could find the Wright boys and many a friend. Now I am not quite sure what kind of picture that conjures in your imagination, but it is probably on the “Wright” track. A good time was had by all and often at the Hippy High Rise. Often enough that occasionally law enforcement may have to pay a visit. On one of those occasions, when the bonfire, music and the general good time being had by all, was a bit too much for some of the neighbors, the local Police paid the crowd a visit.

One of those Police officers, as he was taking in the crowd and some of the shenanigans, looked around and said “ this is just like Oniontown, NY”

You can use the search engine tool and see that there is a strip of road in Duchess County NY, that has been named Oniontown. It is not 100% known how that Oniontown got it’s name, but some of the descriptions will describe a lawless bunch of teens/hippies that also drummed up the occasional visit by law enforcement.

Now did our local Police break up those mini raging parties? Perhaps. However, a good time was had by all and often and many of those properties along the Bold Coast of Maine are still owned by the Wright boys.

Jarod is one of those descendants. We are still there, definitely not partying, but enjoying the beautiful views and fresh air.

After 30 years in Construction, taking after his Dad Jeffery Wright, Oniontown Builders got it’s name.
